Coverage Γ— Presence Γ— Extractability β€” does your brand even show up in AI answers?

    Visibility Score (VS)

VS answers one question: When the AI is asked about your topic, do you show up at all?

It represents Inclusion β€” being invited to the race. A high VS means AI engines recognise your brand as a relevant answer for the prompts you care about. A low VS means you're effectively invisible, no matter how good your content is.

    Formula

    VS = Coverage Γ— Presence Γ— Extractability

    • Coverage β€” the share of your active prompts in which the brand appears at least once across all measurement runs for the period.
    • Presence β€” within those covered prompts, how consistently the brand appears across the 3 runs per prompt per cycle (1 run = weak, 3/3 = strong).
    • Extractability β€” whether the brand was returned in a structured, parseable way (named entity, link, citation) versus a vague reference. Clean structured mentions count fully; fuzzy aliases count partially.

The result is normalised to a 0–100 scale.

    How to read it

    RangeMeaning
β‰₯ 40% (green)Strong inclusion. Your brand is a default answer for the tracked topics.
15–39% (yellow)Partial inclusion. You appear, but inconsistently or only on easier prompts.
< 15% (red)You're being skipped. Prompt scope, brand entity recognition, or content depth needs work.

Colors are also evaluated relative to competitors on the same prompt set β€” being the highest in a low-coverage market is still a win.

Why VS can be low even with great SEO

VS is independent of Google ranking. Common causes:

    • Entity ambiguity β€” your brand name collides with a generic term or a bigger brand. Fix via brand aliases and Organization JSON-LD.
    • Prompt mismatch β€” your prompts are too generic ("best CRM") and AI defaults to the top 3 incumbents. Add commercial/local intent.
    • Thin third-party coverage β€” AI engines rely on cited sources. If nobody outside your own site talks about you, you won't be extracted.
    • Robots / accessibility β€” if GPTBot, Google-Extended or other AI crawlers are blocked, your content can't reinforce the entity.

    Pairs with

    • SOV β€” once you're included, SOV tells you how much of the answer space you occupy vs competitors.
    • TMR β€” once you're included, TMR tells you whether you're the first brand mentioned.

VS is the gateway metric: SOV and TMR only become meaningful once VS is non-zero.
