Featured snippets
A featured snippet is the boxed answer Google promotes above the organic results β sometimes called position zero. For prompts where one exists, GeoBubbles detects it, stores it, and renders it in the SERP snapshot in the same position Google does.
What we capture
For each featured snippet on a SERP we record:
- Title β the headline Google shows in the box.
- Description β the snippet text Google highlights.
- Source URL β the page the snippet is pulled from.
- Domain β the answering site.
How it shows up in GeoBubbles
In the SERP Snapshot view, the featured snippet is rendered as its own block at the top of the results, before the organic list:
- If your brand owns the snippet, the title is highlighted in your brand color.
- If a competitor owns it, the title is highlighted in red.
- Otherwise it renders neutrally.
The snapshot view also shows a small counter of how many of the captured SERPs in the current filter contain a featured snippet β useful for spotting which prompt clusters are snippet-heavy.
Why it matters for AI visibility
Featured snippets and AI answers draw from very similar source material. Pages that win featured snippets are disproportionately likely to be cited in AI Overviews and AI Mode for the same query β so the featured-snippet column doubles as an early indicator of where you're likely to gain or lose AI citations next.
Limits and caveats
- Detection only fires when Google actually returns a featured snippet for the query at capture time. SERPs are volatile β the same prompt can have a snippet one week and none the next.
- We capture one featured snippet per SERP (the primary one Google displays). Multi-snippet experiments Google occasionally runs are stored as the first occurrence.
